(1795-1872) James O'Neill

James O’Neil and his wife Catherine Kilmurray came to Montreal Canada from Killear, Co. Westmeath, probably in the late 1850s. They had 8 children:

Hugh O’Neil - b. 1834, m. Mary Doheney 1861 Montreal, d. 1910 in Montreal.

Anne O’Neil - b. 1836 Ballymore, County Westmeath, m. Alexander Wilson 1865 Montreal, d. 1914 Brooklyn, NY.

Thomas O’Neil – b. Ireland 1837, d. 1865 Montreal.

Bridget O’Neil – b. abt. 1845, m. Thomas Kelly 1860 Montreal, d. 1902 Montreal.

Margaret O’Neil - b. 1840 Ballymore, Co. Westmeath, m. Joseph Phelan 1866 Montreal, d. 1925 Montreal.

Henry O’Neil – b. Abt 1842 Co. Westmeath, m. Mary Ann O’Reilly 1867 Montreal, m. Mary Alice (Walsh) Welch 1886 Burlington, Vermont, d. 1914 St. Albans, Vermont.

Catherine O’Neil – b. Co. Westmeath

Patrick O’Neil – b. Co, Westmeath, m. Catherine Dunphy 1871 Montreal, d. 1910 Montreal.

James’ obituary was published in the Montreal Evening Star, Feb. 12, 1872, page 8 – “In this city on the 11^th inst., died Jas.O’Neill aged 77 years. Friends and Acquaintances are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from his late residence 273 William Street on Tuesday 13^th instant. at half past 2 o’clock.”

Catherine’s obituary reads- “ In this city, on the 15^th inst. Catherine Killmurray, widow of the late James O’Neill a native of County Westmeath, Ireland, aged 75 years. Funeral will take place from the residence of her son, Patrick O’Neill, 273 William Street on Tuesday afternoon the 17^th at half-past two o’clock , to the Roman Cemetery…”
