Unlike Lexile this tool levels text at the K-6 levels considering both the quantitative and qualitative measures for text complexity.

Boston Public Schools just released 41 new Close Reading/Text Dependent Question sets that were developed by a team of 18, K-12 science teachers and the Science Department staff with guidance and support from David Pook, one of the collaborators of the CCSS. This team identified complex non-fiction text passages, and developed text-dependent questions to support close reading assignments for each grade level. Although they are continuing to develop lesson guides to support the use of these materials in classrooms, they chose to post these materials as they become ready and encourage you to try them out.

Their site is a bit cumbersome to navigate but has a wealth of materials including: recommended text selections by grade level PreK-12, research on complex text, instructional practice guides supporting teacher self-reflection on the degree of alignment between their lesson and the CCSS, professional learning modules, etc…
Newsela (https://newsela.com/) is a free online program that features nonfiction literacy news and current events. . Every article is written at tiered reading levels. You can easily assign one article at 5 different reading levels from grades to 2-12.
