Fleet Foxes

Title track from the 2011 CD Homelessness Blues, just one fine composition among many in this impressive collection of songs by the Seattle-based band. All magical somersaults high in the mountains, in and out of the clouds yet curiously earthbound, which is just another way of saying that the music seems to defy description while celebrating its roots. Wheedle's Groove

For decades, the speakeasies and night clubs of Jackson Street, Seattle served as West Coast showcase or portal to fame for the likes of Jelly Roll Morton, Louis Armstrong, Ray Charles, Quincy Jones, and Ernestine Anderson. In the 1960s, soul and funk began to dominate the scene with musicians like Ron Buford and Ural Thomas leading the charge. This vibrant, illustrious past is kept alive by the Jackson Street Music History Project and recounted in this 10-minute trailer of a film documentary by Jennifer Maas.
