COCs Risks:
- Stroke: 11.3 per 100,000 patients per year
- Hypertension: 41.5 cases per 10,000 person-years
- 10,000 women who use a pill containing ethinyl estradiol 20 mcg with desogestrel for one year, two will have arterial thrombosis (MI or thrombotic stroke) (versus 6.8 with venous thrombosis).
- VTE: 2 to 4-fold increased risk
Level of Androgenic Activity in Progestins:
Low: Ethynodiol, Norgestimate, Desogesterel, Drosperinone, Dienogest.
Medium: Norethindrone
High: Norgesterel, levonorgestrel
