Wharekoa Private Hospital, Tawa Street (1919- April 1928). Practitioners: Nurses Cobb and Matheson (from c.1925, just Nurse Cobb, who sold up left the district April 1928). She started at the Esplanade in 1917.

Whangaruru / Wharenana / Te Kuiti Nursing Home, Taupiri Street (1908-1919). Closed in 1915 due to ill health. Practitioners: Emma Hattaway (1908-1915), Nurse Avenell (1917-1919).

Emma Hattaway served for a year as Matron of the Nurse Cavell Hospital in Paparoa. She died of heart failure there in 1920. Aged 56 at the time of death. Her father was Captain Robert Hattaway 54th Regiment who served in the NZ Wars. He died in Pakuranga 1904. He fathered 13 children in total. She died in 1920, and was buried in Howick. The Te Kuiti Nursing Home became St Margaret's Private Hospital (1917-1919), run by Nurse Avenell, possibly from Cambridge. "Misses Avenell and Bell, maternity nurses, have opened a resident home in Queen Street, Cambridge, (next to the residence of Mr P. J. Brooks). Nurse Avenell is a certificated-nurse having qualified in St. Helens Home, while nurse Bell is well and favourably known throughout the district. The Home is now open for the reception of patients." (Waikato Independent, 3 July 1913). Avenell advertised alone for "Erinholme" in 1915. She married George Brown Simpson of Cambridge in 1915 -- perhaps they temporarily shifted to Te Kuiti, then moved back. He died 1935 (NZ Herald, 28 January 1935, p.12)
