Hi,
My name is Barry Asher. I have been a teacher for over 25 years, and this is my 11th year at Northwood. This is my sixth year teaching TAG at our school. Over those few years, I have taught 4th through 8th grade in many different settings. For 3 years here at Northwood, I was a teacher in a co-taught 5th grade classroom as well as 2 years in my own homeroom. My family has lived in the Northwood school district for over 20 years and feel that it has grown to be a true community school. We have worked hard to develop a successful model for our families. I am fortunate to have joined the SGC providing insight through the lenses of both teacher and community member.
My family includes my wife Beth, who is COO of Zeta Beta Tau Fraternity Foundation, Ethan 20, a junior at Stanford University, and Frannie 14, an 9th grader at Centennial High School. We also have our wonderful dog Leroy Jethro Brown who is the coolest of all the cool dogs in town.
Our family has some great traditions. One of the best is waking up on your birthday and starting off your day with cupcakes! There really is no better way to start your day, especially when it’s your birthday!!! Of course, we also open a few presents and cards. Then it’s off to school or work for everyone
Another great tradition we have started is our annual trip to the beach for Thanksgiving. We have gone several years now with the understanding that everyone in our extended families is invited to join us. It has really become a big deal in which cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and even friends have joined us there.
Each summer Ethan, Frannie, and I get the incredible opportunity to go to summer camp. Our camp, Camp Barney Medintz, is located about an hour north of Roswell in the beautiful North Georgia Mountains. We spend the entire summer there enjoying two lakes, horseback riding, nature activities, tree climbing, water skiing, camping, hiking, arts and crafts and so many different awesome activities. Probably the best thing for us is getting to do all these cool things with our very best friends. Even I have been fortunate enough to have made lifelong friends from the time I was a camper many, many moons ago.
I look forward to working with you and your children this year. I have prepared for this position for the past year and cannot wait to get into the incredible activities, lessons, and projects with the kids. We are going to have a fantastic time together, and we are going to be learning so much from each other all year long.
As we journey together through TAG Units, I look forward to getting to know and work with each and every one of you. Thank you in advance for your support. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me: school (470) 254-6390 or e-mail asher@fultonschools.org
