About Us

Our Story:

Northwood School is excited to share the Fab Lab experience not only with their students, but also the entire community! A Fab Lab (fabrication laboratory) is a small-scale prototyping facility offering opportunities for students, and community member to try digital fabrication.

Fab labs share certain core capabilities, allowing people to share projects and ideas across this global community. These labs are generally equipped with a number of pieces of computer controlled equipment where participants will have the opportunity to make almost anything. Current equipment owned by the school includes a laser engraver, vinyl cutter, 3D printers, CNC router, 3D mill, soldering equipment, robotics equipment, micro-controllers, general hand tools, welding equipment, woodworking equipment, laptops and other audio visual equipment.

Northwood FAB Lab

This facility is important for Northern Wisconsin as the Fab Lab can engage and inspire all students no matter their economic status. This lab and equipment will connect students to real life problems, and they can be the problem solvers that our society needs. These projects have real impacts on young adult’s self-esteem and confidence, no matter where they come from. The Fab Lab will expand possibilities, and opportunities for students in ways they never thought possible.

The lab will be open to students throughout the school year via courses and available to the community every Thursday evening from 4pm until 8pm (all year round). "We are very excited about the opportunities this will present for our students and our community,” stated Ben Sorensen, Technology Instructor at Northwood. The current equipment is being used throughout the day, and teachers are regularly finding more opportunities to expand their curriculum and provide exciting, interactive learning opportunities.
