Some years there is no snow or ice on the field and it's just cold. The cold doesn't seem to stop us from flying, but it does shorten the length of time we voluntarily stay in the air. You have to fly for one minute only to make it official. Some years have been warm enough to fly for an hour before fingers and toes froze. Start time is around 11am. There is no rain date for this event.
Details will be posted when they become available
A vernal equinox and St. Patrick's Day associated event. Dates to be determined, possibly March 14 or 21. This fly traditionally takes place on the beach in front of the Ashworth Hotel. There is a heated bathroom. What's not to like about that?
Cape Elizabeth, Maine
The picture shows the kite-eating-tree, so be forewarned. Start time around the 10-11am time frame. Pay for parking is the rule now with a two-hour minimum, except for the overflow lot which is free. There is no rain date for this event.
60 Spring Street, Essex, MA
Come fly a kite at Cogswell's Grant! Bring your own kite or build one of your own, and watch professional kite flyers from Kites Over New England. A limited number of kite-building workshops (courtesy of Blue Hill Observatory and Science Center) will be held with all materials included, where kids and adults can make their own kites and learn how to fly them.
FREE for flyers and spectators. More details when the sponsor posts them.
This event was originally a huge affair, with support from the museum and the city. It included flying many of the clubs very large structures and inflatables, bol races, a kite help tent, a candy drop, and a long list of rules and regulations commensurate to the size of the crowd that showed up. It was a lot of work. Nowadays we just show up and have a fun fly, and it seems to be much more relaxed. Bring your chairs and snacks and your kites. The BIG STUFF is welcome. We start around the 10-11am time frame. Rain Date Sunday the 17th.
This is the day that we fill the sky with memories of Hank. Bring anything you have from Hanks' collection or fly your own stuff, it's all good. Start time is around the 10-11am time frame. The rain date will be Sunday the 14th.
Fly them if you've got them, otherwise any color kite will work. There is usually something going on at the museum during our flying window, maybe Benjamin Franklin giving a speech. Possibly a bar-b-que. Start time is around the 10-11am time frame. No rain date for this event.
This fly is intended for all your older structures that otherwise see little to no flight time. Closet-and-garage-bound kites can rejoice. Any historic stuff is especially welcome even if it doesn't fly, because we all love a good show. Start time is around the 10-11am time frame. Rain date is Sunday the 16th.
9:00 am - 2:00 pm
Get there early if you want a parking space that's close to the beach access ramp. Official start time is 9am, but tent and table set-up time starts around 8am. Keep in mind that this is a beach with a tidal flow that can interfere with your sand anchors.

The Annual One Sky One World International Kite Fly for Peace takes place in hundreds of worldwide locations each year on the second Sunday of October. This has been happening for decades, and obviously we still have a long way to go, but every kite flown helps to make a statement. Please join us for this occasion. Start time is around 10am-11am.
There is no rain date for this event.
This traditional fly on the side of Goat Hill is an opportunity to get your apple fix taken care of for a while, while at the same time being afforded the opportunity to fly a kite on the side of an 800 foot hill.
This is a unique flying venue that is worth the navigation to get there. Even if the wind doesn't cooperate, you have the opportunity of going home with the fixings for apple pie or apple crisp - yummy. There will be hay rides, Storytime under the tent, a corn maze, and there is a hiking trail up the hill.
