The 60th Annual Awards Ceremony for students of the Northern Illinois Chapter was graciously hosted by Northwestern University on May 1, 2016. The 300 people in attendance were welcomed by Chapter President Ninja Nagel and heard short presentations by Amelia Deering and Rachel Lau, who spoke about their experiences as Study Trip Award winners last summer.

The chapter honored 203 students who had scored at or above the 90th percentile on the NGE. It also presented the 2016 study trip nominees and winners, including graduating senior nominee Noor Michael, IMSA, and two non-senior nominees and winners Martin Bolotin, Vernon Hils, H.S. and Jakob Myers, Naperville North H.S. Additionally, Andrew Gugulski, Barrington HS, received the Klett-Langenscheidt Award, Nina Denne, IMSA & Emily Jung, New Trier HS, received stipends to the Student Immersion Weekend by the Northern Illinois AATG, and Regan Penn, Antioch Community H.S., received a stipend by the Swiss Benevolent Society to the Concordia Language Villages.

Four post-secondary students were also nominated for the NOIL AATG Collegiate Award of Excellence by their institutions: Jamie Cohen (College of Lake County), Joanna Bodigor (North Central College), Jenna Chamblin (Northern Illinois University), and Elizabeth Swanson (University of Illinois at Chicago).

The chapter further recognized two colleagues, presenting the Klett-Langenscheidt Award to Johanna Jurgens (Hinsdale Central) and the NOIL AATG Outstanding Educator Award to Katharina Barbe (NIU).

The students received bags (Tragetaschen) saying AATG NATIONAL EXAM - ICH WAR DABEI (high school) or a motto from Munich (collegiate), filled with gifts ranging from books to calendars, iTunes gift cards, jackets, travel mugs, and other special surprises. The two teachers also received books and gift certificates.
