Beyond the Standard Model
This course is devided in two parts.
The first part is devoted to models with extra space dimensions. It will introduce Kaluza-Klein theories including fermions and gauge symmetry breaking; and how these theories manifest themselves in four dimensions. Consequently it will describe why large or warped extra dimensions can solve the gauge hierarchy problem.
The second part shows how the principle of gauge invariance may lead to a common description of the interactions of the standard model.
