Washington Street Corridor

Washington Street, a 4 lane minor urban arterial, is a candidate for a road diet, particularly the portion from West Newton Square to Newton Corner. Washington Street also follows commuter rail service and carries several express bus routes. Excess roadway capacity and adjacent open space along the pike could be used to provide sidewalks, improved bus stops, and a cycle track. At present, Washington Street is a hazardous bicycle route. Improve bicycle access could be used to commute downtown, connecting to regional bicycle routes, or to commuter rail services and business districts.
