11-Aug-2009 Post-mortem of the 30th reunion and ideas for a 35th!?
Cindy Hammond: Ralph, It was fun to see the "100% Chance of Rain" program you posted. I still have the costume! I saved it for my kids but boys that age don't want to dress up as bears! Maybe I'll have a granddaughter one day! I teach preschool now and teach the children how to sing "Who built the ark? NOAH! NOAH!" I've enjoyed reading the posts here and seeing the photos. Really missed seeing everyone this time. Everyone looks so good in the photo!
Scott McCann: The park was a relaxing place to have the reunion. As you have already said it would be good to have a spot set up for the later hours and make it safe for those who want to party a little later than 8 pm. I myself had a good time. Got to talk to people that I have not seen in way too long. I am am proud to be Newark High Class of 1979 and wish all my classmates a long and happy life. Hope to see you all more... Later
Dave Bova: I want to thank you again for all of the efforts you made to put the reunion together. It was really fun getting together with a great bunch of folks. I wish we would have had even more time to visit with everyone, but I was happy that the turn out was so good. I had a great time and got a chance to catch up with a lot of old friends.
Ralph Gonzalez: Yeah I also felt like it ended kind of suddenly. It would have been nice if we could have stayed at the park a couple more hours into the dark, and polished off more of the beer ;-) Maybe next time we'll either do the same thing but start earlier, or find another venue where you can stay later -- as long as it's not too expensive or complicated...
Dave: I totally agree. The park venue worked out better than I expected. Everyone was relaxed and there was a lot of opportunity to mingle. About 10 of us went on to the Deer Park afterward and had a few more and just sat around and chatted. Maybe next time we can do the park to get things started and be family style and afterwards reserve a meeting room at the UD Hotel or at a restaurant and have a cash bar and let the party continue. Folks would be free to come and go and only spend as much as they wanted to for “Beverages”. Just a thought. When do you think the next reunion will be – 35th?
Ralph: In addition to the Deer Park some folks went over to Jim George's house in PA afterward. (I kind of crashed at home, myself :P). Next time we have to coordinate an after-event better -- at least one person got lost and just went back to her hotel. I'm not sure if Jim has enough room and would play host for the after party next time. Otherwise I guess we would have to do as you say and reserve a meeting room with cash bar...
Carmen Dominguez: I agree with David and Ralph and feel that the park was a great venue. It was very relaxed and it made it easy to mingle. The 4-8 timeframe seems fine but we need to make arrangements to continue the reunion elsewhere. I feel that there would be too many people for one person to host it at their house. It may be better to have it at a restaurant such as, Timothy's on Paper Mill Road. They have an upstairs area which would be spacious enough for our group and a cash bar would be available. Just a thought for the 35th.
02-Oct-2007 Ralph Gonzalez. Remember the 1979 teacher's strike? Toby Eckhardt and I convinced the "substitute" physics teacher that we were supposed to make a film about physics in class, resulting in The Papa Allen Show (obviously influenced by "The Mr. Bill Show" on Saturday Night Live). Unfortunately I lost the soundtrack cassette. I just got around to rerecording the sound from memory, enjoy!
18-Apr-2007 Scott McCann. Charlie Blackwell letting us smoke in class to see how it affected blood pressure and he got suspended by the school board for 1 week without pay...
Sept 14th - Carol Balabushka ( Hoover)- I thoroughly enjoyed catching up with everyone. Thanks again to all those who planned this event. I too would have liked more time to visit. I like the idea mentioned for 2 separate events.
Maybe at least the evening venue walking distance from one or more hotels.
