A letter of intent is like a cover letter. A letter of intent states your intentions regarding the position you are applying for. We recommend that you first Google search "letter of intent" for a general idea. Then, you can read the suggestions below:
Generally speaking, as with a cover letter, this letter of intent should be no longer than one page, and no shorter than half of a page with content. This letter should explain experience you have that pertains to this program, such as research experience, involvement in other organizations, promptness for shifts, good social skills, clinical experience, ability to follow instructions, etc. You can find general formats online, which can include 1) a formal header with your contact information and who you are addressing (the Chief RAs), 2) an introductory paragraph stating who you are and what you are applying for as well as a statement summarizing what the body of the letter will address (e.g. I believe I would be a good fit for this program because of x, y and z), 3) the body should have paragraphs elaborating on x, y, and z, showing how your previous experience/skills/etc. would help you in this program, 4) a conclusion stating again what you are applying for and summarizing why you would be a good fit, and 5) your closing (i.e. please feel free to contact me... sincerely, name). Essentially, be professional and show how you are a good fit for this program. Also, be sure to include your intended profession after schooling.
