Aperture
This task is an aid to the understanding and use of aperture in photography. Aperture, along with shutter speed is the most important concepts to grasp in the effective use of an SLR camera and is something that is "synthesized" through some built in and purchased apps on modern smart phones. This task is in 2 parts: the first part is to be done using an SLR camera (if available) or with a smart phone if an SLR is not available. The second part of the task uses Photoshop to create simulated aperture effects.
Read the “Information on Aperture” on the following links:
1. Write a brief description of aperture and define what is meant by “Depth of field”. (approx 50 words)
2. Take a series of digital shots experimenting with aperture. You need to produce at least one successful example of each of the following:
• A photo showing a large depth of field
• A photo showing a small depth of field with the foreground in focus
• A photo showing a small depth of field with the middle ground in focus.
If you are using your own digital SLR camera you will need to consult the manual to learn how to use the camera in "Aperture Mode". If you are using your phone to achieve the three different photos you, these links will help:
These photos need to be displayed with an explanation of each shot.
3. Use Photoshop to create the illusion of “small depth of field” from a “large depth of field shot”. There are a few different ways of doing this but the following link is helpful:
