May 2022 (and onward) Helicopters

It had been several years ago that a helicopter landed in SSP (I am not sure someone told me of another occasion during the recent Covid-19 epidemic, though...). But now in just a week two landing have taken place.

Both ushered in by police presence and a variety of claim about injured people... In the latest occasion, the Police also closed tracts of Surrey Square and East Street so that there is maybe some foundation after all.

This was the evening landing on the 27th of May, a Friday, with lots of people in the park and hardly any policeman, the helicopter left without any significant development, actually makes one wonder why it was called in the first place.

That on Tuesday evening, not many people frequenting the green but two police cars and actually after landing, a crew member sped away toward the Aylesbury end of Surrey Square with a large bag. So, perhaps, this time there was some - actual - need for the flying ambulance to be present.

Nonetheless, the helicopter again left without picking up anyone.

It seems that, at least in the latter landing, the cause of the helicopter landing was caused by a serious episode of violence in East Street. This article from the "My London" newspaper, "20220601 Teenager stabbed and fighting for his life in South London as East Street is shut down - MyLondon" (Stored HTML link) provides some background.

And again on Thursday the 9th of June 2022, another helicopter landing in SSP. The event (image courtesy of Julian), did not seem to have been accompanied by any other major incident, and it appears that our park is now a recognised and approved landing site for this emergency service.I will expect more, throughout the summer.
