My Music

I've downloaded and started to learn some scales, beginning with the minor pentatonic scale (the first and most basic scale). This is something I should have done fifty years ago but it's never too late. I started using this site for the time being. My latest discovery is that the blues scale is the same as the minor pentatonic scale but with an extra note added. For example, in the Gm pentatonic scale shown in the diagram the five note progression is G, A#, C, D, F and with the blues scale the six note progression will be G, A#, C, C#, D, F.

There are many other scales to learn of course but this is a good start. I'm finding Pinterest to be quite useful for sourcing musical diagrams, both the images on the right were found on the site. Hopefully 2018 will be the year where I really make some progress with my proficiency on the guitar. Recently I downloaded a program for my laptop called MuseScore (website) that allows for the creation and playing on musical tablature.

The site ultimateGuitar.com is where I store the lyrics and chords to many of the songs that I play. Being parted from both my acoustic and classical guitars that I've left behind in Jakarta, I was compelled to buy a new acoustic guitar to keep me company while I'm here in Australia. Here's a photo of it, taken from the online catalogue of the store that I bought it from (for A$179) in Paddington.

For someone of my lowly skills, it's good enough. Desy brought my tin whistle and harmonica from Jakarta when she last came so I have these instruments as well. As for guitar help, I've found the YouTube Channel of LickNRiff very helpful. Of course, my Android app Tabs is great for getting the chords to songs and DaTuner Lite for tuning my guitar.
