In line of Manta B's production from 1975 to 1988 there has been factory engines from 60PS to 110PS on Manta B's. Really rear are cars with original 16V (i400) and Irmscher tuned straight-six engines.
My Opel Manta B is manufactured on 1983 and model extension is GT/E (although the engine marks model i200). I bought the car in March on 2008. It was in "running" condition (like on picture). There were also some horsepower left from initial 123bhp (92kW). So I patched up front pumper, made some minor fixes and on to streets I went. I really enjoyed the ride - rwd lightweight car. When MOT expired I started to pull the car apart. The idea was to rebuild every part of the car myself. Right from the start I knew that chassis needs welding. This has taken longest hours from this car's rebuild, as I'm not a professional welder. Other tasks like engine rebuild and interior sewing haven't been so hard on me. As for the engine - I'm hoping much of it. Nothing under 200bhp saticfys me.
The rebuild engine is Opel Calibras 2.0l DOHC (c20xe - 110kW). I have aftermarket camshafts for it and am going to run it on Megasquirt. I've renewed every gasket, piston ring etc. Also I have the head ported by a rally team engine specialist. All the bushes have been changed for powerflex and dampers for koni adjustables. Finally the paintjob - had some help with it.
