Judy Kotai has worked in the visual arts field since graduating from the
University of Western Australia with a Bachelor of Arts and a Diploma of
Education, firstly as a high school art teacher, then moving on to establish
her own studio concentrating on the design and fabrication of stained glass.
She has received a number of Community Arts Grants to co-ordinate projects to design and make stained glass panels with local communities for public buildings. She has undertaken public, private and church commissions, and also participated in numerous solo and joint exhibitions.
More recently she has returned to painting, with excursions into contemporary jewellery-making, drawing on past glass and painting experience.
“The underlying theme of almost all my work is environment-based. Colour is a dominant element, with experimentation and the joy of discovery a driving force behind everything I do. At the moment my canvas extends into the garden and with the flowering of the spring bulbs the gallery space is enlarged to to encompass the colours, shapes and forms of the garden.”
This year the exhibition , Garden Life Forms, takes place in the gallery ,
featuring paintings, jewellery , glass and ceramics by Judy Kotai, Lesley Munro, Alison Brown, Sara Attanasio and June Bairstow and Betty Mckeough will be displayed in the gallery.
The gallery is also a working studio, and visitors can watch work in progress, and view and purchase from a range of paintings, glass, jewellery and ceramics on display. Visitors are encouraged to stroll around the gardens as they form a natural extension to the work being exhibited. In winter and spring, old-fashioned picnics can be enjoyed by the creek, to the sound of the numerous small waterfalls. Wheelchair access is possible by arrangement and there is
plentiful parking.
The Gallery and gardens are open Wednesday to Friday, 10am – 4pm. If
planning a visit it is preferable to phone first (08) 92988846
