He paints and teaches art at his studio and gallery in Mount Helena for eight months each year. With his family he spends four months at Mekong House in NE Thailand on the banks of the Mekong River. Here his sister-in-law owns and operates Thailand Painting Holidays providing guests with painting and photography tuition combined with experiencing the wonderful Thai rural culture. This area of Thailand sees very few tourists and the people follow ancient traditions. Details can be seen at thailand-painting-holidays.com.
Jeremy studied for the Diploma of Art at the Claremont School of Art, in Perth, and in 1994 he held his first solo exhibition of Pilbara landscapes at Woodside Petroleum in Perth and Karratha. Since then he has had highly successful annual exhibitions at galleries in Perth and exhibited in Broome, Yallingup, Mandurah, Adelaide, Melbourne, Cairns, UK and the USA.
His paintings have been used in several books, CDs and magazines for publishers including the Australian Broadcasting Commission, Michigan University Press, the New York Art Guide and Palette Magazine.
Jeremy’s influences include Lloyd Rees, Van Gogh, Bonnard, Klimt, the Fauves, Lucian Freud, Arthur Boyd, John Perceval, Brett Whitely, Chagall, Garry Shead, Fred Williams, Stanley Spencer and Paula Rego .
His work is always innovative and with an enthusiasm and passion for art he concurrently develops several themes both painterly and conceptual. Jeremy’s paintings are characterised by movement, colour and wit.
Jeremy's work is represented in many private and public collections, both in Australia and internationally.
In March 1995 he established the first Internet art gallery in Australia, peachtreegallery.com. The gallery is included in the National Archives with copies of it taken annually. It contains images of over 700 of Jeremy’s paintings. He also has a gallery of his paintings designed to display at amazing resolution on tablets at jeremyholton.com.
Jeremy has a small gallery at his studio in Mount Helena and visitors are always welcome, just give him a ring first to make sure that he is in.
