This lab did excellent during the year but I realized that their % of alcohol was much higher than mine. I decided that I could allow the students to design their own experiment varying levels of alcohol % to hopefully have a higher precipitate!
This lab does amazing for two reasons: 1.) Students are able to work with DNA in a hands on. setting with lots of communication between lab groups. 2.) They are able to visibly see DNA at the end of the lab.
Not from our class but a search of more high school related maker projects I found how to make Kombucha. This would tie nicely into our bacteria and cultures part of the year! As many students seem to drink kombucha on a regular basis, students would be able to make their own Kombucha!
