Since December 26, 2013, we have collared and monitored 28 cougars within the boundaries of the Mt. Emily WMU for this project. Seven cougars have died over the course of the study. One cougar died from a vehicle collision, 2 cougars died of unknown causes, 1 dependent kitten died of plague and 3 dependent kittens were killed by wolves. In addition, 4 cougars shed their collars (kittens) and 2 cougar are currently missing (i.e., signals cannot be detected). Currently, we have 9 GPS collars (6 females, 3 males) and 2 VHF collar (1 adult female, 1 dependent kitten) on cougars within the boundaries of the Mt. Emily WMU. One GPS collared cougar has dispersed outside the study site.
