Introduction

The Second Annual Montana 1000 Adventure Ride will take place over six days from Sunday, July 17th through Friday, July 22nd, 2011 coincident with the beginning of the 2011 West Fest Rally on July 23. There is no cost to participate, just show up at the Darby Loggers Day fairground and park along the south fence .Riders will begin and end in Darby, Montana and will have the opportunity to ride on and off road for a total of approximately 1,000 miles. Riders are encouraged to organize in small groups spread out along the route.

This site provides information for participants in the Rally including a route and some alternates, information about camping and motorcycling in Montana, etc.The basic route should be rideable by mid-level beginners on any dual-sport or dirt worthy machine. Almost all roads will be Forest Service or public farm country dirt roads. There will be some pavement (maybe 10% to 20%) and there may an interstate leg where no alternative is possible.

The route averages about 168 miles per day; longer days will be somewhat less technical. Experienced riders will have plenty of time and opportunity to explore different routes if so desired. We will not necessarily pre-run alternative routes, and we have not provided alternate routes unless there is an obvious reason to do so.

The routes are the result of several advrider.com members' efforts and input and are currently posted for discussion purposes. The current, working, route is shown on the Route page. The routes will be finalized after pre-rides are completed, likely a week or two before the start of the rally.

The "Other Routes and Tracks" page contains those contributed by various advrider.com inmates. Many were contributed for the "2010 rally." You may want to incorporate some of these routes in your ride.

All riders should also familiarize themselves with the information provided on the Useful Information page. Information about the first day is on the Arriving at MT1000 page. For ADVrider threads go to the MT1000 planning thread as well as the 2011 West Fest thread.

Participation in the Rally is at the participants' own risk. All information is provided in good faith but with no guarantee of accuracy by any of the those involved in the planning. Riders should participate at a level consistent with their skill and preparation!
