Engagement in learning includes:
Students are expected to engage in class activities at all times during the class period. As such, no phones or other communication devices will be used during class time except for when they are part of class activities. This policy includes both voice conversations and text messaging. There may be times when a student needs to contact someone immediately, such as a job, spouse, babysitter, or child. When these circumstances arise, students should leave the classroom to phone or text, and return when their communication is finished.
Grades for participation in the class will be determined by respectful (on-topic, relevant) engagement in discussions, conversations and activities including whole group and small group. Disengagement/non-participation includes texting, work on computer not related to current work in class, Facebook, bird walking, and dominating the discussion.
Class Attendance:
Because face-to-face collaboration within the ALP2 cohort is an integral part of this course, class attendance with full participation is essential. The following will negatively impact a candidates grade:
Attendance Sign-in Sheet will be available until 5 PM, at which time the instructor will pick it up and highlight the names of those not signed in. The instructor will keep the sign in sheet and people who are late will sign in at the instructor’s table when they arrive. Late sign in time will be in conjunction with the instructor.
Attendance records will be maintained at the School of Education. Attendance records will be available upon request from your school administrator/evaluator.
Three tardies will equal one absence. As a matter of professional courtesy, please contact your instructor prior to every absence or tardy.
