20130829 Park Sign At last a Reality

At last, after two years of setbacks and false hopes the sign showing the map of the Park with the WildLife Area was finally a reality.

The sign (originally two of them) was part of package squeezed out of the Open Space award in 2010. Then the money was cancelled, reinstated, decreased, suspended, eventually conditionally considered. The organisation in charge of delivering was moved, the Council section dealing with it split and the paperwork lost at every stage, the process to obtain it modified, while the people involved disappeared elsewhere.

Pippa, the Service Development Officer for Southwark Council eventually took pity of our bitter lamentations and very bravely took upon herself to bring the project to fruition.

So thank to her our time of sorrow passed away.

The sign beautifully made had much significance and will help visitor appreciate the various aspects of the park and its many wild life spots more

Before the sign was to be installed we did a little clearing up of the spot where it will then stand. We thought that after such a long wait, anything we could do to speed up it installation was worth doing!

Than we waited for the faithful moment to arrive, when the contractor van would show up and the end of time came to pass.

At last they were there.

Local lads that cheerfully and with alacrity set to work.

The hole for the posts were dug deep and true and the post firmly anchored in the regolith. Pippa, very professionally showed up riding her light alloy bicycle with élan and graceful, assured skill.

She took charge of checking all was in schedule (even checked with Julian that the sign would have been at the right hight when the future wooden rail will be constructed along Albridge Street) and than satisfied that all was well returned to her commitments and busy endeavours.

The work proceeded apace, propelled by the general enthusiasm that pervaded all the presents. The posts were carefully balanced, the beautiful signreadied and eventually installed. The contractors went over the top to make sure all was perfect and solidly built.

Rightly proud of their workmanship they were rightfully recorded in their moment of glory! As for the sign itself no expostulation is needed !!
