Speed

The equation is speed = distance DIVIDED by time. Miles per hour and kilometers per hour are sample units for speed. Speed is the amount of distance over an elapsed time.

Average Speed is the TOTAL distance DIVIDED by TOTAL time. So imagine you went .5 meter in 1 second and then 2 meters in 1 second, you total the distance and the time. 2.5 meters divided by 2 seconds. Your average speed is 1.25 meters per second.
