My response? "No. As soon as we noticed your absence, we decided that the learning process was no longer a viable option for our class, and that we'd rather sit around in a circle, consoling ourselves and one another with sweet memories of you, our departed classmate."

Summary: Today we talked about the physical geography of the Unites States. Students were given a blank map and were asked to fill out major physical features (e.g., lakes, rivers, mountains) as we discussed them in class. We discussed how the geography of an area is important to understand for the history of a country to be properly understood.
