Hoot 'n Toot
875 Santa Cruz Avenue
Hoot 'n Toot appears in the 1959 edition of Polk's Directory, but not in the 1957 edition. Thus the business was probably established in 1958.
Present owner, Michael Chon, bought the business in 2005 from his uncle, Mr. Lee (now deceased), who had the business for 20 years. Millard F. Moulthrop was the original owner.
The building itself is still owned by the Moulthrop family, viz., Cathline, wife of the late Millard F.
The image above was taken in 1960 at the scene of the confrontation that led to the shooting death of Menlo Park Police Officer Jack Lyle . It is included in the online tribute to Officer Lyle maintained by the Menlo Park Police Officers Association . The police car is in the parking lot between Draeger's and Hoot 'n Toot. The bank building on the corner, which today (2013) is Pharmaca, has not yet been built. Notice that the unusual "drive in" sidewalk at the back entrance to Hoot 'n Toot is already in place.
