Welcome to the site that is dedicated to exploring the MOS 6561 VIC-I chip at the silicon level.

There are various resources already online that describe the chip's behaviour from a black box perspective. Perhaps the most useful is the MOS datasheet, which can be seen here:

This datasheet contains a block diagram that reveals a little more about what is going on under the hood. But does it really reflect what is happening at the silicon level?

A few years back, the people at visual6502.org put up some die shots of a 6561E chip:

Ever since then, those images have been inviting us towards investigating what this little video chip is doing and comparing what we see at the silicon level with the block diagram.
