英語の質はともかく、内容は平均曲率一定曲面の研究成果をまとめた、おそらく最初の英語本となり、ちょうど平均曲率一定曲面の研究が盛り上がったころだったので、結構評判がよかったようだ。著者自身による研究結果（劔持の表現公式）の著者自身による解説が白眉。
