THE MONROY FAMILY
Sources of Monroy surname
The Placentino Xil Blas de Ocampo wrote in his manuscript about the lineage of Monroy, in the National Library of 1650. He traces the origin of this surname, , to the descendants of Vigil de Monroy, this version is discovered in many old chroniclers
Vigil de Monroy is a French gentleman, son or brother of King Dagobert III, who ran away from his country with his loyalists to get rid of his brother who usurps the throne.
This gentlement traveled thru the Pyrenees and took refuge in the mountains where he is welcomed by the Asturian King Pelayo, who after verify his bravery, appoints him as captain (captain in latin is "Vigil"). From that date He was named by his loyals servants as "Vigil mon Roy"(captain my King), name by which would be known.
Evidence of this is showed by Pedro de Gratia Dey, herald of the Catholic Kings, in his book of honors to the families of Castile (year 1484), dedicating the following verses to the Monroy surname, whose narrative fully describes the coat of arms surname.
"You see two gold castles
Over manly blood
With two quarter veros (heraldic lining)
Blue and silver
From the French name Vigil
To be a Monroy praiseworthy
King Pelayo knows that
He caused in peace and fury
These arms of Asturias
Have by sign reliable
Vigil was his name, this way his vassals that they came from France, joined the protocol suffix "mon Roy" means "my King "
Undoubtedly the vast majority of travelers, "Monroy" or "Monrroy" from Spain to Mexico or any other country in Latin America came from Spain, specifically from the province of Extremadura in Spain.
