Vale Mirrabooka Snow Gum

Sadly the iconic Mirrabooka, "our gum tree", is no more.

Our "special snow gum" was there at the very beginnings of Mirrabooka and was mentioned on page 6 of our 50 year Club history when Ernie and Lorna Philips went down and, as the History recounts, "staked a claim on the "best site in Perisher"" at Easter in 1960.

The glory of our tree was captured in the painting which hangs in the lodge by Bob Aiken from the Warringah Bush Walking club in 2001.

Over the last decade our tree, "made weak by time and fate", gradually but noticeably declined in splendour.

Early this year, concerned on safety grounds, the arborists were called in to assess the position.

They concluded "tree is rotting out in the middle, tree should be removed"

Having obtained the necessary NPWS consent, this was duly attended to recently.

Vale "our tree"....
