Communities of Practice
Learn the foundational elements of successful communities, offering insights into their structure, purpose, and impact. Stan will cover essential principles, including key fundamentals, 10 Principles for Successful Communities, and 10 Tips for Effective Leadership. Attendees will gain practical strategies for fostering engagement, sustaining momentum, and driving meaningful collaboration within their own communities.
30 Lessons in 30 Years: Insights from a Knowledge Management Leader
Gain a reflective and practical look at three decades of experience in Knowledge Management. Stan will share his 30 key lessons learned throughout their journey as both a practitioner and a leader in the field. Attendees will gain valuable insights into the evolution of KM, best practices for success, and actionable strategies to enhance organizational learning and knowledge sharing.
Lessons Learned
Explore a "lessons learned life cycle" model developed through the synthesis of various academic research studies. Dennis will highlight examples of approaches taken by different organizations and share practical insights gained from their experiences. Additionally, this session will introduce refinements made to the standard After Action Review process, demonstrating how these modifications have enhanced effectiveness within their own organization.
Organizational Learning
Gain a fresh perspective on organizational learning, challenging conventional approaches that focus on behavioral changes within individuals. Dennis will introduce a conceptual shift, proposing that all learning entities — whether humans, animals, machines, or even ant colonies — share fundamental characteristics. If organizations are truly capable of learning, they should exhibit these same traits. By identifying and enhancing these features, organizations can cultivate a more effective learning environment. This session will invite discussion and feedback on this innovative framework, encouraging participants to rethink how organizational learning is understood and improved.
Lessons Learned
Barton Malow’s Quality team will present a Lessons Learned initiative that has been developed collaboratively with project delivery teams across the organization to drive continuous improvement and elevate performance across projects. The team will share how they systematically captured, analyzed, and shared critical insights from past successes and challenges. Learn about the structured approach to identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions that have led to measurable improvements in quality outcomes. The presentation will also feature real-world examples, tools used for knowledge capture and dissemination, and strategies for embedding lessons learned into future project planning and execution.
Generative AI
This session will introduce a generative AI solution implemented by Deloitte based exclusively on helping users get the most out of Deloitte's global knowledge base. It will provide insight on some of the pros and cons and challenges with implementing this tool. The discussion will focus on two aspects of the project: 1) Looking for ideas to improve adoption of the tool; and 2) Looking for experience from others to address a hard problem we could have a dramatic improvement on the quality of the experience – How to identify the "best content" at scale in a system that has over a half a million content items?
AI Agents
Barton Malow’s Data and Automation team will share two AI agents that they have developed in-house. A Finance agent was developed to provide comprehensive financial insights for construction projects and integrate budget tracking, cost forecasting, and financial risk assessment. The agent aims to deliver actionable intelligence and optimize project performance and profitability. A Market agent provides real-time insights into the construction industry landscape by integrating data from Industrial Info Resources, Engineering News Record, and Cosential CRM. This agent aims to identify market trends, project opportunities, and competitive positioning.
