2018 News

The Minutes of the MPF Autumn 2018 Convention are here. It was agreed by the meeting that NO printed copies of the New Midlander will be centrally printed and circulated in future. Societies are asked to ensure that their members receive a copy by email or have a copy to read at meetings.

An ABPS Executive Bulletin dated December 2018 is available here. Our MPF Chairman, Steven Harrison, has been co-opted to the ABPS Executive Committee and will be standing for election as ABPS Vice-Chairman at the ABPS AGM in York in July 2019. This ABPS AGM will likely discuss an increase in the ABPS Affiliation Fee, to take effect in January 2020.

The results of the MPF Autumn 2018 Individual competitions are here, with Clive Jones winning Best-in-Show with a Gold medal for a display of "The Clipper Period 1854-57".

The MPF held its Autumn 2018 Convention on Sunday, 25th November 2018 at the Rugby Stamp Fair, Benn Hall, Newbold Road, Rugby, CV21 2LN. The agenda for the meeting is here and the minutes of the previous meeting are here.

The Minutes of the ABPS 2018 AGM in July have appeared on the ABPS website here. It appears that if the ABPS is to continue doing what it does currently that the ABPS Affiliation Fees will need to increase from January 2020. Around a third of the 2017 ABPS expense was associated with London 2020 and Exhibiting.

From 6th September 2018 Hinckley & District Philatelic Society are going back to their previous venue, now known as The Hinckley Academy & John Cleveland 6th Form Centre, at Butt Lane, Hinckley, LE10 1LE.

The Officers of the MPF have changed following the AGM held on 12th May at Worpex. Colin Searle stood down as President after a number of years of service in a variety of roles, and Bob Harper has taken his place. Dr Ken Flint is now the MPF General Secretary (in addition to editing the New Midlander) and Steven Harrison is now the MPF Chairman (in addition to being the Print Editor). The remaining Officers are unchanged (see here for a list). Societies are reminded that their MPF Affiliation fees for 2018-19 are due (as well as any affiliation fees that are still due for 2017-18).

The Entry Form for the MPF 9-sheet Inter-Society Competitions is here. Entries (printed colour copies), with a completed entry form, need to be posted to arrive at the address in the entry form by Wednesday 25th April. The entries and results will be displayed at the Spring 2018 MPF Convention at Worpex on 12th May 2018. Worpex is at a new venue this year, at Perdiswell Leisure Centre, Bilford Road, Worcester, WR3 8DX.

The Royal Sutton Coldfield Fair at the Collingwood Centre, 3rd March 2018, was cancelled due to the weather.

Northamptonshire Philatelic Society has changed its meeting venue as from the 1st March 2018 to 37 Billing Road, Northampton, NN1 5DQ.

The date of Nottinghamshire PS's auction at St Peter's Rooms, Ruddington, NG11 6HA been changed again to Saturday 17th February 2018.

The CENTENNIAL PHILATELIC CONGRESS OF GREAT BRITAIN will be held from Thursday 26th to Sunday 29th July 2018 at Jurys Inn, Gateshead Quays, South Shore Road, Gateshead NE8 3AE. See http://gbcongress.uk/ for details.

Due to a large increase in room hire fees for the venue used by the Telford Stamp and Card Club, their January and February meetings have been cancelled to save costs. The next club meeting is at 7.30pm on Monday, 12th March, 2018, at a new location – the BELMONT HALL, Wellington, Telford, TF1 1LU. It is the AGM and will be followed by a meal at the nearby Wetherspoon’s pub and eatery. The following monthly meetings from April to June will be as advertised but at the Belmont Hall instead of at the Ketley Community Centre. The quarterly Telford Stamp, card and coin fairs are NOT affected and will take place as advertised, also at the Belmont Hall.
