Hinckley & District P.S. have moved to St Francis Community Centre, Tudor Road, Hinckley, Leicestershire, LE10 0EQ from September 2017 (apologies for the late notification, this move got missed by the MPF webmaster).

The date of Nottinghamshire PS's auction at St Peter's Rooms, Ruddington, NG11 6HA been changed to Saturday 24th February 2018.

The minutes of the ABPS 2017 AGM in July have just been published here. Unfortunately since the AGM Rufus Barnes has had to resign as Vice-Chairman and Federation liaison.

The Banbury Festival of Stamps, and the Autumn MPF Convention were held on Saturday 28th October 2017 at Blessed George Napier School, Springfield Avenue, Banbury OX16 9JD. See here for directions and a list of dealers. The results of the Autumn 2017 MPF 16-sheet Individual Competitions are here. Two highly scoring Postcard entires were disqualified from the Open class by the judges (due to insufficient philatelic material) and as a result the MPF Convention agreed that future MPF Competitions should include a Postcard Class. At the Convention an Award was made to Andrea Filipiuk, the long serving (25+ years) Programme Secretary of Leamington & Warwick Philatelic Society.

Change of venue: As from September 12th 2017 Leicester Philatelic Society will be meeting at The Christchurch, 105A Clarendon Park Road, Leicester, LE2 3AH.

MIDPEX 2017 is over - thanks very much to the chairman, organising committee and everyone who helped. Only two years until the next Midpex !

Midpex will be held at the Warwickshire Exhibition Centre on Saturday July 8th 2017 10 am to 5 pm. The event in 2017 has attracted superb support with around 60 dealers, including post cards, stamps, postal history, accessories and ephemera, and 40 Specialist Societies. One of the star attractions will be the ‘Royal Mail Post and Go’ issues available at the event. See here for a special edition of the New Midlander.

Amongst those taking part will be the Royal Philatelic Society, Great Britain Philatelic Society and ABPS. Many Societies will be offering their publications for sale. Regional meetings are being held by British Postmark Society, O P A L, Meter Mail Study Group, Pacific Islands Study Circle, The Revenue Society, TPO & Seapost Society and the Iran Philatelic Study Circle during the one day event.

Stamp Active, the voluntary group that promotes stamp collecting to children, will also have an area to hand out free goodie bags to youngsters with activities for them to complete to win prizes. They will take in any donations from visitors who wish to support their programmes.

The Spring 2017 MPF AGM and Convention was held on Saturday 13th May 2017 hosted by Worcester Philatelic & Postcard Society at Worpex. The AGM was at 12 noon - see here for the AGM Agenda, here for the AGM Minutes, and here for the annual accounts which were accepted. Mark Rollason was elected as MPF Treasurer, replacing Colin Riddell who had to stand down for health reasons.

The results of the Spring 2017 MPF Inter-Society 9-sheet competition are here, Best-in-Show was jointly won by Alan Godfrey ("Wilkins-Ellsworth Arctic Expedition" in the Open class) for Redditch and John Barker ("German Lettercards 1897-1900" in the Traditional Stamps class) for Solihull, both with 82 points and Silver-Gilt awards.

There will be a West Midland’s regional meeting of the Royal Philatelic Society on May 27th 2017 at the Moor Hall Hotel on Sutton Coldfield (B75 6LN). It is an all-day meeting with lunch in the hotel restaurant. There will be invited displays from Fellows, Members and Guests. The cost of the event is £17 and anyone wishing to attend should contact Steven Harrison by May 12th (sharrison500@btinternet.com).

Clive Murray, who is receiving all the entries for the MPF competition at Worpex, is away for three weeks in April. Any entries sent to him will be stored securely until he returns but he will not be able to acknowledge receipt of an entry until his return. All entries should still be sent to Clive for collating at the address given on the form at the end of the latest New Midlander.

The Chair of MPF is pleased to announce that Mark Rollason of Coventry Stamp and Postcard club kindly volunteered to take on the role of MPF Treasurer. He will be formally elected at the AGM but is currently working in a volunteer capacity with Colin Ridell.
