Motivation is necessary for college. You will absolutely have to motivate yourself, especially if you are the only one that believes in your choice to study your profession or go to school.
Choose a career or rather at the very least a subject matter that you want to pursue. You have to choose something that interests you. If you enjoy researching a subject and have fun learning new element of your chosen career path. That is probably what you want to go after. This drive that you feel for that subject is internal motivation.
Internal Motivation is the most powerful motivation you can acquire. This is created by you alone, your want to complete a task, your own drive to learn more. Your passion for a subject. That is your internal motivation. Let this drive you towards your goals.
External Motivation is the other type. This motivation is great and feels good when your friends and family are cheering you on. This external motivation can also come from other outside forces, sometimes more negative. Needing to complete the degree to get promoted or earn a certificate to get approved for that job. This can still be good motivators, but always turn them into positive motivations. Telling yourself that you get to do this, you have the opportunity that others don't.
Negative Self-Talk is very harmful to yourself and your goals. This is when your not feeling good about something and start telling yourself you can't do it. Or you don't have enough time to do something. This can become toxic to your success. When you start feeling down start reversing your thoughts, find the time to do a project, tell yourself you can complete the task. Don't avoid the negative self-talk but instead re-frame it and change the way your think about doing that type of task.
