People know poets' words
And they quote them,
And other people might know the words
And quote back something.
These people are happy with themselves
And each other,
And may, but just as likely may not,
Wonder if the people around the poet
Were happy with him or her,
Or even if he or she was happy with themselves.
Words may serve.
Or dissemble.
A poet may be the last to ask.
He or she most likely won't remember
The words the happy people are quoting
Since others have replaced them
Long since.
