ONAGA – Roy W. Duer, 64, of Onaga, passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at the Onaga Health and Rehabilitation Facility with his family by his side.
He was born January 3, 1961, in Manhattan, the son of Owen and Joyce Lamont Duer. He graduated from Manhattan High School in 1979 and from Kansas State University in 1984 with a degree in Animal Sciences.
Roy was a rancher and cowboy at heart, and he held many jobs during his lifetime. He was an assistant herd manager at the Oklahoma State University Purebred Beef Center, a ranch hand with Rezac Land and Livestock, and an auctioneer with the Onaga Livestock Association and the Rezac Livestock Commission. In addition, he was a real estate agent and broker with Duer Real Estate, drove a bus for USD 322 in Onaga, managed the Onaga Swimming Pool, owned and operated Duer Ranch, and was a paraprofessional at Onaga Schools, retiring in 2023 due to health reasons.
He was a member of the Emmett United Methodist Church. In earlier years, he was a member of the Pottawatomie Fair Board, the Pottawatomie County Extension Board, and the Pottawatomie Planning and Zoning Commission.
He married Lisa Rezac on August 14, 1993, in Emmett. She survives, of the home.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents and his grandmother, Opal Francisco.
Other survivors include a son, Mitch Duer, Onaga, a daughter, Shay Duer, Wichita, one brother, Keith Duer, Topeka and many nieces and nephews.
Roy took great pride in being involved in his kids’ lives from sporting events to trucking the Midwest for livestock shows. In his younger days, he enjoyed roping and participating in ranch rodeos with friends.
