Danny William Brown, age 63, raised in his beloved hometown of Manhattan, Kansas permanently retired, surrounded by family on February 1, 2025. He was born on April 15, 1961, the son of Kenneth and Bonnie Brown.
Danny was a lineman of 37 years for Butler Rural Electric, spending decades climbing poles and restoring power to our community in the worst weather imaginable, all while grumbling loudly and reminding us all how tired he was. Despite the grumbling, we know how much he loved his line of work and his colleagues: they were his brothers—bonded by long hours, hard labor, and enough of Danny's jokes, pranks, and sarcasm to power the grid.
Danny will leave behind a legacy of hard work, sharp-tongued wit, and an impressive dedication to doing exactly whatever he wanted. He loved whiskey, and he made no apologies for it; change was not in his vocabulary. He never failed to remind us that he was, in fact, retired, especially and conveniently when asked to do anything he didn't want to do. He worked hard and expected others to do the same. He was deliberate in his expectations, sometimes lacking in patience, but above all, honest with a fierce dedication to the truth and a legendary streak of stubbornness. Danny will be dearly missed by many.
Survivors include his wife, Cammy Brown of El Dorado; daughter Natasha Brown of El Dorado; son Mark J. Brown and his wife Tyler Brown of Valley Center; his mother, Bonnie Brown of Manhattan, KS; his sister Clara Menhusen of Silver Lake, KS; brother Mark D. Brown and wife Cindy Brown of Tucson, AZ; respected uncle to nieces; he leaves behind 5 grandchildren (including a 6th on the way). He was preceded in death by his beloved father, Kenneth W. Brown of Manhattan, KS.
In addition, the family simply and kindly asks you to honor his memory by turning off the damn lights when you leave a room because someone has to pay the electric bill.
