Caradorynee: Feats & Wagers
#6
Lark had secured a prized spot, in the hastily built stands, to watch the next Shegata battle. With his impressive winnings, collected at the wagering booth, he’d offered the greedy Duracka within the enclosed structure the undeniable urge to extricate the creature’s lost bonedoons from Lark in the upcoming battle.
Lark had sufficed the Duracka’s greedy urge by wagering all of his winnings.
The Duracka had seemed surprised, as were a number of other creatures that had shown avid interest from the increasing crowd surrounding Lark, but the creature had taken Lark’s wager gladly.
Now Lark stood, the shrill of the ABONSHEEEEGGGAAA cry echoing in his ears.
He watched as the Human girl rushed forward while removing her top. She had left her blade behind and now only had the knife that was still sheathed at her thigh.
The sight of her bare breasts, ample in size and jiggling provocatively as she ran, with dark dusty nipples sent a shiver of male awareness and deep appreciation straight to Lark’s loins.
It had been centuries since Lark had thought of sex. His Dueanian half all but squashing any sexual desires his Human half had once possessed.
Still it was nice for Lark to experience the sudden surge of lust. To have a brief moment when he remembered what it had felt like for his hands to fondle and caress, and his mouth to taste and suckle at a beautiful woman’s breasts.
To remember the feel of soft hands grasping him and the smooth skin of a woman’s curvy buttocks. And more importantly to remember the act of thrusting hips and hearing the throaty, pleasurable cries of a woman’s ecstasy.
The ABONSHEEEEGGGAAA faded and so did Lark’s desire, but a tiny smile lingered at the corners of his mouth. If nothing else, he was grateful to the Human girl for inciting him with a treasured memory from his past.
Star sprinted away from the other competitors and followed her nose towards a section where there appeared to be smaller clumps of docarass.
She swerved in an attempt to avoid the sharp barbs of a Jeka’s thorny tail. The midsize creature had dashed in front of her and dropped to the ground as it pounced on a rather large docarass. Star winced as the prickly barbs brushed against the exposed flesh of her side. She felt a slight burning sensation but pushed onward.
Two more creatures fled by her. A Moesu and a Pouriecolt. Thankfully neither of the creatures paid any attention to her.
Twelve more paces and she reached the section of docarass that she had been eyeing. She dropped to her knees and lay her tunic out onto the ground
Docarass in shades of bright pink and almost translucent mauve caught her attention. She sniffed the air and was pleased when she could detect a stronger hint of damp ash than she had at the starting circle.
Ignoring the blistering heat on her bare shoulders and back she tentatively reached out and touched a pink docarass.
A slight dusting of the outer surface, almost like icing sugar, crumbled at her touch revelling a more translucent base.
Star smiled.
Star quickly dug her hands into the ash covered surface of Caradorynee and scooped and pushed the ash away from the base of the docarass until she was actually digging through the planet’s crusty upper surface.
The now topmost exposed part of the docarass, like the roots of a tree, gleamed blood red.
Star probed the docarass and was pleasantly satisfied when the earthed portion of the docarass remained intact.
Her theory was right.
As the Caradorynee’s sun hardened the portion of the docarass that lay on the surface by evaporating the moisture it also provided the earthed portion protection by hardening the ground above its roots. In effect keeping the underground portion of the docarass so wet that it resembled the consistency of a soaked rag.
Star quickly reached for the knife at her thigh and deftly unsnapped the leather holster. Grasping the hilt of her knife in both hands she rapidly began to dig in a frantic pace to make the hole deeper and wider. With each plunge the docarass was unearthed further.
Satisfied she’d done enough Star started cutting through the saturated portion of the docarass as if she was sawing a log of wood. Several large chunks fell away and as fast as she could she placed those chunks onto her tunic. When she had what she estimated she could carry she tied the sleeves of her tunic together.
Standing Star stood and hefted the load close to her body, then took off to the where the Karco master’s were waiting to weigh the competitor’s yield just inside the starting circle.
