Based at Trinity Presbyterian Church in McKinney, TX, Pack 496 provides a quality year-round program.
Cub Scouts are divided into five ranks: Lion, Tiger, Wolf, Bear, and Webelos. Each scout works towards the rank corresponding to their grade: Kindergartners work towards Lion, 1st graders towards Tiger, 2nd, Wolf, and 3rd grade, Bear. Webelos covers fourth and fifth grades, earning the Webelos rank in 4th grade and the Arrow of Light award in 5th. Scouts joining in later years are not able to "catch up" and earn earlier ranks.
Each rank requires the scout to complete six Adventures plus two electives. Bobcat, which was once it's own award, is now an Adventure for every rank each year. It is designed to be the first required adventure focusing on character and leadership.
The required adventures take scouts through the basics of scouting, including outdoors skills, camping, hiking, health, fitness, citizenship, service, and faith. Electives are more varied, and include opportunities to explore science, arts, music, theater, engineering, woodworking, and more.
The handbook for each rank includes details for all adventures, and in many cases provides all the information a scout needs when completing "research" elements for the adventures. You may also find this information digitally by following the link below.
The six required adventures focus on character/leadership, outdoors, personal fitness, citizenship, personal safety, and family/reverence. With the new BSA 2024 updates there is now more overlap within these adventures across all the Cub Scout ranks. This allows for multiple Dens and/or the whole Pack to coordinate activities together while also focusing on required adventures. This does not only create a robust and fun experience among the different ages but is also a time saver for families. Below is a graphic of just one example.
