What is a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) in Oregon?
A LCSW is a clinician who has a graduate (MSW) degree and is licensed by the Oregon State Board of Clinical Social Workers to practice in this state. Clinical social workers subscribe to the fundamental values and ethical standards set down by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW).
Social workers are trained to provide services in a variety of settings (public agencies, schools, hospitals) and to various populations (children, seniors, chronically mentally ill). Clinical social workers have specialized training to provide services in clinical (mental health and addictions) settings.
Licensed, master level clinicians in private practice might also be Licensed Professional Counselors (LPC) or Licensed Marriage & Family Therapists (LMFT).
