Critical Thinking About an Article–Paper #2
Draft due on Oct. 19, Final due on October 26
(a) Content: Using the tools we have learned so far in Critical Reading, Writing, and Thinking, analyze one of the articles for which there are online links or (with permission) one of the articles in Diestler. Instead of doing research, the examples you use to critique the article should be from your own experience, from the experiences of people you know (and trust), and/or from films and television
Structure: (simply suggestions)
(b) Introduction (as short as a sentence or as long as a paragraph)
(c) Summary of the essay, which may include quotations and paraphrase and should be objective.
(d) Your thesis, stating your opinion about the article you have read
(e) 4-7 body paragraphs, each of which is focused on a specific idea in the article. Most will apply a critical thinking term as part of the analysis/ critique
(f) Conclusion
(g) Work(s) Cited page (separate)
Form:
650 words or more (2 1/2 or more pages) Double-spaced, typed or computer-printed. Please have at least four quotations!
Grading:
100 points. 10 points for bringing two computer-printed pages of your writing on draft day. 5 points for excellent title and opening. 15 points for accurate summary, paraphrase, and quotation of the article that you are analyzing. 10 points for your 4 required quotations, correctly done. 20 points for accurate use of the vocabulary of critical thinking. 10 points for really analyzing the article. 15 points for showing why you agree or disagree with points made in the article through personal or media examples. 15 points for grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
