Mariano Rico is a Postdoctoral Researcher (funded by National Spanish Research Ministry under Juan de la Cierva Programme) at the Ontology Engineering Group (OEG) in the Artificial Intelligence Department (DIA) at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM).
During 2010-2013 he was a postdoctoral Teaching Assistant at EPS-UAM in the GHIA Research Group. In 2010 he was a postdoc researcher at EPS-UAM and Associate professor at the Telematic Engineering Department in the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M). From 2003 to 2009 he was a teaching assistant at the EPS-UAM.
Mariano holds a MSc. in Physics Sciences (1992) (Fundamental Physics specialist), MSc. (Advanced Studies Diploma) in Computer Science and Telecommunication (2004) and a PhD. in Computer Science and Telecommunication (2009) from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM). He was accredited Associate Professor (tenured; in UK, "Reader", in Spain "Profesor Titular de Universidad") in September 2012 by the Spanish quality agency ANECA (a full member of European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education), and as non-tenured Associate Professor (in Spain "Contratado Doctor") in January 2010.
From 1992 to 2003 he worked in private R&D centers as Software Engineer, Software Architect and Project Manager in different research and applied fields related to new technologies.
In 2011 he had a short stay at the Web-based Systems Group, Freie Universitat (FU) at Berlin (Germany). From 2013 he also is related to the AKSW Research Group (Leipzig University, Germany) for his involvement as head of the DBpedia Spanish chapter. From 2014 he is related to the Semantic Computing Group, with activities related to Linguistics and Linked Data. This group belongs to the Center of Excellence Cognitive Interaction Technology (CITEC) at Bielefeld University, Germany.
