Dear students and parents,
Welcome to my science class!
I have been an LAUSD teacher for 23 years, during which time I have taught both elementary and middle school. I have a BA degree from UCLA in Theater Arts and a Masters in Science Education from CSULB. I am currently completing my National Boards Certification for Teaching. I believe strongly in establishing a safe student-centered learning environment where students treat themselves and each other with respect. My students will always know what to expect from me, will never be treated unfairly or yelled at, and will always know what I expect from them. It is my goal to foster a classroom in which students look forward to spending their time, practice a growth mindset, and above all learn to LOVE science.
Back when I was a student in Middle School, my favorite things to do were singing and performing in theatrical productions. Science was not at the top of my list of favorites! However, after teaching for several years, I realized that I absolutely LOVE teaching science. This passion led me to take workshops and classes in science education, forestry, environmental science, horticulture, and much more.
Now, my favorite things to do in life besides teaching are hiking, backpacking, fishing, gardening, cooking, and spending time with my family. My husband is an English teacher at Monroe High School's Law and Government magnet, and my son is a student at Nobel. I am a proud supporter of Students Run Los Angeles (SRLA) at Nobel, and am thrilled to be running the LA Marathon for the fifth time this year with the talented and motivated students in our group. I still love to learn new things, and plan to continue to grow in my own education even while teaching others.
I am looking forward to a fabulous year with all of you.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Mandl
