Haapsalu is a small Estonian town, surrounded by the Baltic sea on three sides, and everywhere you go, the all-seeing Clock-Tower of the ancient castle will follow you like Big Brother. This tower, the highest building of the town, is the part of the Episcopal Castle, which spreads across several hectares of land in the middle of the Old Town.
The entire territory of this castle, surrounded by high stone walls, is well-kept. There's a colorful children's playground, which includes wooden models of a ship and a castle, places designed for medieval festivals, and a broad field for musical events. The White Lady Days music festival is a famous one. On full moon nights in August an image of a maiden, The White Lady, is said to appear on the inner wall of the unique round baptismal chapel, located in the bailey.
The finds from recent decades are partly displayed in the west wing of the Small Castle. There you can find an entire medieval armoury, which was discovered a couple of decades ago in the King’s Chamber.
A lot of interesting and frightening legends are related to this medieval castle. I highly recommend visiting it.
