Hannaford Hall on USM's Portland campus
The Maine Suzuki Association (MSA) is pleased to present a Master Class for student chamber ensembles and soloists on violin, viola, and cello with members of the East Coast Chamber Orchestra (ECCO). This event is offered in conjunction with the Portland Chamber Music Festival.
What Is a Master Class?
It’s a chance for students to have a lesson with a master performer/teacher in front of a small audience of observers. Not only do the performers learn, but the observers learn and are often musicians as well.
About MSA’s Master Class
This 90-minute-long master class will be for small string ensembles (typically string trios or quartets, but not limited to that) or soloists on violin, viola, and cello. There will be no piano available for this event.
Each performance will have 30 minutes to perform a short piece or movement of a larger work and then be coached by professional musicians who are members of the ECCO.
Three performances will be chosen by audition.
Observers are welcome at the master class for FREE.
Audition Requirements
Families of all performers must be members of MSA. You can join for only $20/per year at our website at the time you apply.
Any ensemble or soloist interested in participating should submit an audition video to MSA. The video should be of the specific piece, or movement of a larger piece, to be performed at the master class.
Videos should be available on a platform where you can provide a link to MSA without the selection committee needing to download them–for example YouTube (can be marked “unlisted” and not available to the public), Vimeo, etc.
Three performances will be chosen for the master class.
The application deadline is Feb. 1, 2025.
There is no fee to apply.
