What stores do you frequent on a regular basis?


  • Hannaford - one of the main supermarkets, more of a “local chain” good selection of foods

      • Forest avenue by 295

      • South Portland, by Mill Creek Pond

      • Outer Forest Avenue at intersection with Riverside

  • Shaw’s – the other supermarket, national chain owned by Albertson’s Foods, has a discount card

      • one on congress heading towards the airport

      • one on Brighton and Riverside (just into Westbrook)

      • one on Auburn/Washington Ave- Northgate Plaza

  • Trader Joe’s- always busy, located on marginal way

  • Whole Foods- boycotted by some, loved by others- on Marginal Way/Franklin Arterial

  • Browne Trading Company – Extremely fresh seafood and extensive wine shop, supplier of NYC restaurants, on Commercial

  • Free Range Fish and Lobster- end of commercial by the bridge- the place for haddock or lobster!

  • Miccucci’s – Old school Italian specialty store on India street, known for fresh pasta and fresh thick pizza

  • Pat’s Meat Market- on Stevens Avenue- tiny local meat market with great meats

  • Portland Public Market House – local products and vendors – bread, beer/wine, cheeses, veggies – Monument Square

  • Rosemont Market/Bakery- Brighton Ave or Munjoy Hill, Organic, local market with pastries, cheeses, meats, wine (you pay for what you get - prices can be higher, except wine is very affordable)


  • The Maine Mall- the mall area has the big box stores you can find across America, on Highland Ave and Maine Mall Road. Actually in South Portland, past the airport

  • Freeport outlet malls, and of course the LL bean hub with the giant boot

  • Kittery- more outlet malls, Kittery Trading Post

  • Hakunan on forest ave. good vegetables/Asian foods

  • Ice Cream –so many good places, most are seasonal. Willard Scoops in SoPo, MDI ice cream on Exchange St. (Obama’s favorite!), Libs on Washington for soft serve, Beal’s on Washington, in Old Port, and in SoPo
