Telephone and telecommunications is actually the first of many skill-sets I acquired. I worked for a company called Burroughs, then later Unisys, and traveled extensively for them to schools and training facilities. Then eventually I worked into a telecommunications technician as a local technical support member. As time progressed, I worked into a regional support specialist in the telecommunications field for them. I studied various protocols and electronic 'hand-shack' routines to ensure that bank and industrial machines around the area kept up their associated communication with main-frame computers around the world. And this was all before Al Gore had even thought of the internet. This was with point-to-point, and multi-point, leased line configurations.
To the novice, the above might sound a little 'geek-ish', but it enables me to provide world class service to my customers...

When I install home networks and telephone jacks, I typically use a single, muti-function wall jack, including provisions for pc networks, phone, and cable. In newer installations, I also include connections for video and audio as well.
In my typical wall plate, you would find:
1. cable and network connection on the left side.
2. Audio & video connection on the right.
A wall plate like this in every room, correctly placed works wonders to keep cables and clutter under control.
Be sure to view my video in my 'home theater' section to see other wall plate applications.
