Flight Restrictions
Danger Areas to the south
Keevil Airfield (south west) has a part time danger area.
Obstructions
Etchilhampton Hill 627ft amsl - 1nm NW
Tall hedges – undershoot Rwy10, Rwy28 (south side)
Tall trees – undershoot Rwy28 and close on north side.
Drainage channel - running along northern edge of grass strip.
Noise Sensitive Areas - as shown on circuit chart.
DO NOT FLY OVER RED AREAS
ARRIVAL INSTRUCTIONS
If airfield is manned frequency 135.480Mhz (CAA Safetycom) is monitored to pass landing information. This is a noise sensitive area so please avoid overflying villages during approach. The circuit pattern shown optimises flight path for both noise abatement and obstruction avoidance. A slow flypast ensures the strip is clear of deer and people walking dogs. With strong southerly winds turbulence can be expected from the high hedge along the southern edge of the field. The runway surface is 12m wide and is smooth and level. As crop or long grass is grown in the rest of the field, landing by long wingspan aircraft is not recommended. Parking is at the southwest corner of the field. For convenience day visitors can park at the far west end between the clubhouse and the caravan. Overnight visitors can join the east end of the line of resident aircraft. Please record your landing in the visitor’s book in the clubhouse or in the Movements Log on this website. Combination for the door lock available from the owner.
Rwy10 Beware of rising ground on base leg. Use a 20deg offset for final approach to avoid overflying the park homes with final line-up over the runway. The displaced threshold is marked abeam a windsock (LDA 620m). A second windsock is 320m from the far end of the runway. Do not depart runway to the north as there is a step edge between the runway and the field. The south side is level with the strip and can be used for a U turn if the grass is short enough. Otherwise use the turning circle at the Rwy28 threshold.
Rwy28 Use a 15deg offset for final approach gives better view and offset from high trees on short finals. Due to low crossing altitude of railway line discontinue approach if a train is coming to avoid creating concerns for the train driver. It is possible to use the full runway length but this is unnecessary with the windsock marking a suggested displaced threshold (LDA 520m). Second windsock is 200m from far end of runway. Do not depart runway to the north.
DEPARTURE INSTRUCTIONS
Check for arriving aircraft before backtracking (Rwy28) or lining up (Rwy10). Total runway length is 820m.
Rwy10 There is one slight hump just before the first windsock. Beware of being ‘ski jumped’ into the air prematurely. Climb-out north of the railway line until above 500ft aal.
Rwy28 As soon as altitude permits turn right and fly just west of Wabi Farm as indicated on the circuit map. The farmer here likes aircraft and this avoids noise sensitive areas.
