fly-in/bbq

The 2023 LYDEWAY Fly-In/BBQ is DELAYED UNTIL sunday 27th AUGUST.

ANNUAL FLY-IN/BBQ INFORMATION

Each year we hold a Fly-In BBQ. This evolved back in 2002 when Cathy and I decided to hold an evening BBQ for local residents. Paddy Clarke flew in with his Europa and we used our two Europas as a backdrop. The following year this changed to a lunchtime event enabling others to fly in for the day and with the start of joy ride flights it became a true flying occasion. Due to its popularity and limited space this fly-in is limited to a maximum of 15 visiting aircraft. As most aircraft do a couple of joyride flights, this results in a total of about 75 movements during the day which keeps me pretty busy in my role operating the A/G radio.

Only pilots who have been allocated a slot and have a copy of the briefing will be permitted to attend. This is a free event with food and drink provided in exchange for a couple of joyride flights for local residents.

We do have a box for charity donations. The proceeds are shared between the Multiple Sclerosis Society and https://www.parkinsons.org.uk .  Thanks to everyone's generosity we usually raise about £300.

On the day aircraft will start arriving from 11am. Food will be served from 1pm.

Finally John Reed kindly forwarded me these last two photos. One was taken at a recent fly-in and the other back in 1957. Some of the aircraft might have changed but the spirit of grass trip flying continues on.
